Influenza study of backyard animals in Georgia

چکیده
Introduction Aquatic birds are the main reservoirs of influenza viruses, however pigs represent an essential host in virus ecology as they are susceptible to both avian and human influenza viruses. Circulating zoonotic influenza (A/H7N9, A/H5N1, and A/H3N2v) viruses could mutate into forms easily transmissible from human-to-human and become a public health concern. Georgia is located along routes used by migrating birds where different species of aquatic birds are found. In 2006, highly pathogenic influenza virus A/H5N1 was detected in two wild swans in Adjara (western Georgia). Moreover, in the frame of wild bird surveillance, various subtypes of influenza A viruses were detected in mallard and gulls in Georgia (Lewis, 2013). Thus domestic animals in Georgia have a potential chance to contract influenza viruses from wild birds.

Detection of Newcastle disease, H9N2 avian influenza, and infectious bronchitis viruses in respiratory diseases in backyard chickens in Ahvaz, Iran, in 2014-2015
Newcastle disease virus (NDV), avian influenza virus (AIV), and infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) are the most prevalent viral pathogens in the Iranian poultry industry. This study aimed to reveal the presence of these viruses in the backyard chickens in Ahvaz, located in the Southwest of Iran. A total of 100 chickens with respiratory signs and mortality were examined by taking the blood sample...
متن کاملSerological Evidence of Inter-Species Transmission of H9N2 Avian Influenza Virus in Poultry, Iran
Ducks and in-contact backyard chickens on 20 smallholder backyard farms in 4 districts of Shiraz, Southwest of Iran, were monitored for antibodies against H9N2 avian influenza virus using hemagglutinationinhibition (HI) test. A total of 200 unvaccinated ducks and backyard chickens were sampled. The mean H I titers and seroprevalence in ducks and backyard chickens were 8.3, 5.7 and 78.4, 62.9%, ...
متن کاملSeroprevalence Survey of H9N2 Avian Influenza Virus in Backyard Chickens around the Caspian Sea in Iran
Since 1998, an epidemic of avian influenza occurred in the Iranian poultry industry. The identified agent presented low pathogenicity, and was subtyped as an H 9 N 2 avian influenza virus. Backyard chickens can play an important role in the epidemiology of H 9 N 2 avian influenza virus infection. Close contact of backyard chickens with migratory birds, especially with aquatic birds, as well as ...

OBJECTIVES We aimed to determine the frequency of pH1N1 transmission between humans and swine on backyard farms in Tumbes, Peru. DESIGN Two-year serial cross-sectional study comprising four sampling periods: March 2009 (pre-pandemic), October 2009 (peak of the pandemic in Peru), April 2010 (1st post-pandemic period), and October 2011 (2nd post-pandemic period). SAMPLE Backyard swine serum, ...
متن کاملRisk for Infection with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Virus (H5N1) in Backyard Chickens, Bangladesh
To evaluate risk factors for infection with highly pathogenic avian influenza A virus (H5N1) in backyard chickens in Bangladesh, we conducted a matched case-control study. We enrolled 25 case farms (cases March-November 2007) and 75 control farms (June-November 2007). We used a questionnaire to collect farm data, which were analyzed by matched-pair analysis and multivariate conditional logistic...
